Day 1: Immediate Post-Treatment
Your skin will be red, warm, and possibly swollen — similar to a sunburn. This is completely normal. Apply the prescribed ointment or healing balm every 2-3 hours to keep the treated area moist. Use cool compresses (not ice directly on skin) to reduce swelling. Sleep elevated on extra pillows. Take prescribed medications as directed. Avoid touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
Days 2-3: Peak Swelling
Swelling typically peaks around day 2-3, especially around the eyes and lips. Continue cool compresses and keep the area well-moisturized. Your skin may begin to feel tight and crusty — resist the urge to pick or peel any flaking skin. Drink plenty of water to support healing from the inside. You may experience some itching, which is a sign of healing. If itching is severe, contact your provider.
Days 4-7: Active Peeling
The treated skin will begin peeling naturally. This is your body shedding the damaged outer layers to reveal fresh, new skin beneath. Let it peel on its own — do not pull, scrub, or exfoliate. Continue gentle cleansing and heavy moisturizing. The new skin underneath will be pink and sensitive. Begin wearing mineral-based SPF 30+ if you need to go outdoors, though minimize sun exposure.
Week 2 and Beyond
Most redness resolves by day 10-14, though a pink hue may persist for several weeks (this is normal and can be covered with mineral makeup after day 7-10). Your skin will look noticeably smoother and more even. Continue strict sun protection for at least 3 months — new skin is highly susceptible to sun damage and pigmentation changes. Follow up with your provider at the 2-week mark for assessment.
